Developing the Proper Business Mindset.

Developing the Proper Business Mindset.

Welcome to Skyrocketing Your Career by Developing the Proper Business Mindset.

You will discover that the biggest difference between a successful businessman and an invalid employee is just one thing.

The mushy thing in your head between your ears - YOUR BRAIN

A famous man once quoted: As a man thinketh, so is he.

Likewise, the ability to develop a successful business or excel in whatever career is this:

" The way a person thinks, shapes his words " These words will in turn, shape his actions. " These actions form his habits. " These habits shape his character " Finally, a person's character which will shape your destiny.

It all starts from a thought in the mind.

Believe you can do it, and it will come true. Believe you can't, and then you WILL fail.

However, so many people are thought that they can't do it! They live in a negative environment where mediocrity is the norm. Success is viewed as 'difficult' and those who stick out like a sore thumb are shot down before any success can be seen.

What you will learn are mindsets that are essential for any business owner or anyone who wishes to excel in their career.

What kinds of people are suitable to read this section of the siote?

" People who are stuck in a dead-end job thinking about something new " People who are in sales because you must think like a business man in order to be successful in sales " People who are in start-ups because most start-ups fail within the first two years and those who do survive struggle for the next 3 years trying to break even " People who are in network marketing because network marketing is a difficult job and it requires you to have a true business mindset as well as having a good attitude for success " People who are ambitious to climb the corporate ladder, because even a top CEO treats the company he works for as though he runs the business himself and takes full responsibility for it. " And many others!

Although taking that first step towards developing a business mindset is very tough, the rewards at the end of the rainbow are well worth it.

Let's get started!

I am My Own Boss

I am the boss. I will boss myself when no one is bossing me.

One of the major difficulties why people are not able to succeed in their business is because they lack the discipline to carry out the day to day tasks that require you to take action even in the midst of distractions.

When you were an employee, you wake up early, you drive to work and arrive on time, and you get the job done before Friday evening. You carry out your tasks like a robot programmed with the instructions.

However, once you step out of your cubicles, you suddenly realize that you have all the time in the world. You can decide where and when you want to work.

As a matter of fact, you have so much time that, suddenly you don't know what to do with it! You become unproductive as a result because only busy people get more things done. To make things worse, you don't have a boss behind your back so you start slacking off, taking things easy and working at your own, snail pace.

One month, two months, three months later, you wake up to the realization that you didn't get many things done and you are way behind schedule. By the forth month, you have lost so much income (because you are no longer on a payroll) you start looking for a normal job once again.

You start telling yourself that running your own business requires too much work and you convince yourself that running your own business is not your cup of tea.

This is a scenario of most employees who jump out of the employment frying pan into the fire of business horror.

If you can't discipline yourself to work out your plan, no one can. You probably won't go very far in employment anyway because of your mindset.

Developing a business mindset requires you to BE YOUR OWN BOSS.

As your own boss, you have to make regular checks on your schedule and reward and punish yourself properly.

A good idea is to do a spot check on yourself every 15 minutes to see whether you have done anything productive in the last 15 minutes. If you can't do that then it is better to make sure you 'clock in' at least 8 hours of productivity just like a normal employee should. If you fail to clock in enough hours then make sure you complete those hours during the night. Don't let the work time roll into the next day.

Don't tell yourself that you can make up for the lost hours during the weekends. If you are still operating on an employee mindset, your mind will convince yourself that weekends are rest days and you will become unmotivated. You will have to work on weekends if necessary because employees do not run their boss' business but as your own boss, you have to be there 24/7.

Lesson:

If you can't boss yourself, find someone who will until you are able to get the hang of it.

I Am Responsible For My Business

As a business owner, I and only I am responsible for my business, and no one else. What happens is my fault and solely my responsibility and I will accept whatever outcome that happens because I am the boss.

Most people who have an employee mindset rarely work beyond the outline of their job scope. They perform a day's work for a day's wage, and nothing else.

Many will complain when they are assigned a piece of work beyond the call of duty. This is seen often in the corporate sector where employees refuse to comply with their colleagues when asked to perform a function that belongs to another department.

They will say, "Oh, this is not the responsibility of my department. Please go and see those guys in the other department to get the job done." (Sometimes, this may even apply to simple tasks like passing a letter or check to someone else in that department)

This kind of non-compliance attitude is destructive for the company as a whole as it takes longer to get a job done and contributes to inefficiency. If you adopt this attitude when you are running your own business, you are expecting a disaster.

In business, you can't pass your responsibility to someone else. Even if you hire employees to run the day-to-day tasks, it is just suicidal to hand over the responsibility over to them. Why do you think business owners wake up early to open the doors to their shop and close the doors late at night on a daily basis?

Think of it this way, your teenage son has just learnt to drive. If you do not sit beside him and supervise him, you are in a dangerous situation. You just can't go, "Okay, son, since you can drive, why don't you go and pick up your little sister from school daily?" Any sane parent would still take responsibility and not hand over the keys so easily.

The point is, your employees do NOT have vested interest in the success of your company.

They will just do the bare minimum and go home. They don't care if your company collapses tomorrow. They can always find another job.

There are rare breeds of employees who work hard and take vested interest in your success. They go out of the way to rectify a problem. But most of the time, these people will have their own plans in mind and will one day leave you to start their own business. The worst thing is, they might even start a company doing the same things you are doing and become your competitor. Hence the saying, "I am just gaining experience" To be successful in business, you have to pay attention to every single detail in your company whether it is the accounts, the sales, the customer service, the logistics and even the menial tasks that the secretary does.

If anything goes wrong, you are the technician. If customers complain, you have to be the customer service rep. If you are filing for taxes, you have to take responsibility and look through your accounts the second time.

Get the idea?

Neglecting any part and pushing the responsibility to others do not solve problems. You either make money or make excuses, not both.

Lesson:

Outsource work if necessary but always keep your all seeing eye on every aspect of the business.
