People Don’t Care How Much You Know…

 

When networking with others, always remember that people don’t care how much you know unless they know how much you care.

Life is like this. You can be a chatterbox talking about yourself all day – but if you don’t relate to others, they will find it a bore talking to you.

If you want to criticize others, no matter how justified you feel you are or how valid your arguments are, people can feel your intent to correct them as something out of true concern or out of blowing your own horn.

You must never, ever remove the human element when it comes to networking. When networking with others, you must make sure that you talk business but not 24 hours a day. Behind the hardworking, professional executive, is a person who plays with his kids and kicks his feet up while he watches TV (yes, even Donald Trump chills out by watching TV while eating hamburgers!)

People want to feel appreciated. They want to feel validated and significant. So don’t be stingy when it comes to praise. Praising others is free and the effects powerful as it heals the soul.

Try praising someone at least once a day. It feels like a warm hug using words.

Once you help people to like themselves better, it will be much easier for you to get what you want and reap the rewards of networking.


Lifted Up By Others

Climbing the ladder of success isn’t easy. Especially when you are climbing the corporate ladder you will have to deal with a lot of office politics, backstabbing and power struggles.

The same goes for entrepreneurs as they face tough competition, inflation, undercutting, slandering and resource domination.

So what can we do? Would we rather have people as our friend or as our enemy?

In the 21st century, you can always force your way into domination. Learning to get along with others is almost always the best way to network your way to wealth.

If there is one lesson we must learn from all this, we must remember that no one will pull you up the ladder of success…

Rather, we are lifted up.

When you provide value to your customers, they usually come back cash and credit card in hand waiting to buy your products. When you help other people succeed, they won’t think twice before running over to help you. If you have a good relationship with your family members, their love and support will lift you up and carry you all the way to the finish line.

So never ever neglect the power of networking with other people.  It is not the survival of the fittest that wins. We only have 24 hours a day and we need to leverage on others to get what we want. The best engineers, doctors, lawyers and entrepreneurs are not the ones with the most degrees or the sharpest minds, but rather those who have a way with people.

After all, we are sharing the planet with them for another 30-60 years, why not practice the reciprocal law of giving?
