Relating To Peoples Hot Button
Once you have identified the hot button of your ‘target’, you must learn to relate to him or her in a way that is genuine and sincere. Firstly, you have to be very sure that your intentions are aligned with their hot button. You could be looking for: - Building a simple friendship
- Convincing someone to join your company
- Soliciting business from a customer
- Asking a beautiful girl out on a date
- Sharing the gospel hoping to ‘convert’ the prospect to your religion
Take for example – a network marketing distributor (a network marketing rep is a prime example of someone networking their way to wealth) If you want to get your prospect to sign up, you must relate to him/her in such a way that gives them a reason why they would want to sign up with you. It could be financial freedom. It could be freedom from a JOB. It could be because they love the product so much that they would buy a few cartons of it.
Make sure you investigate your prospect’s hot button (if you have the information in advance). For example, if someone says he or she is in to Internet marketing, don’t ask them foolish questions like, “Wow, can you really make money online?” or “Is it an Internet service provider company” or worse “Is it a scam” (Hey, you will be surprised to know that many ignorant people are clueless about the fact that many are already making money online) I think we get the idea. We may not know so much about what they do but having a bit of general knowledge could avert lots of embarrassment. Also, do remember that not everybody might be comfortable when dealing with their hot button. For example, if you know someone suffers from depression, don’t jump the gun and ask them if they would like you to recommend a psychiatrist! There is a time and place for everything – you just have to sense whether that person has ‘given you permission’ to talk about their hot button or whether they are in the frame of mind to receive advice from you. By learning how to relate to their needs, you have built a bridge into their circle of trust and you can be sure that wealth will soon follow.
